Anish finishes 3rd in Candidates Tournament

Anish-1

In the second half of the Candidates Tournament Anish showed excellent form, starting with 4 points out of 5 games. However, in his 6th game the dream of a WC-Match against reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen was brutally stopped by Alexander Grischuk, who beat Anish in the 13th round. At that point Anish was still in the race for first place. It was an off-day for Anish, but he can still look back with satisfaction to the event, in which he knew on beforehand that it was very tough to win, with one point difference between him and the leaders Vachier-Lagrave and Nepomniachtchi, when the tournament resumed.

Anish won fantastic games against Ding, Wang and Caruana before losing to Grischuk and Alekseenko in the last two rounds. Anish some important rating points, which leads him to the 6th place on the World Ranking List. With his victory in the Meltwater Magnus Carlsen Invitational and his shared 1st place in Wijk aan Zee, it seems that Anish is ready for the rest of this year. His next important event is the World Cup Tournament in Sochi (10 July-3 August).
